Serious card game for explaining ontological concepts

In this workshop we demo a card game, created in collaboration with Universiteit Twente, to explain the concepts underlying the ontologies SAREF (Smart Applications Reference Framework), Semantic Sensor Network, and Common Greenhouse Ontology (CGO). These semantic models provide a common view on what constitutes a measurement, which usually are provided in widely different context from all kinds of data sources. Establishing a common view on measurements can greatly facilitate any application using that data. In this workshop you will learn an example how a game can aid a user in their understanding of a complicated innovation . You will experience details about SAREF and related models.  Also you can provide us with input on the card game and draw inspiration for applying a game on the ontology in your work.

Build or dismantle a control point in an hour

Geopolitical turmoil highlights the importance of understanding interdependencies between countries and related business activities, popularizing the concept of 'control points'. It’s already chosen as a key-theme in the new ISP strategy. In this workshop you’ll get an introduction to the concept of control points and work together in a team to develop a strategy for your own control point in a part of the digital stack.

Intersectional fairness: What does fair AI really mean and for whom?

There will be an introduction about intersectional fairness. Then we will discuss together how we can better comprehend and steer the impact of our work at ISP, so that it also benefits people on the margins. The workshop will take a specific project for the bases. DIVERSIFAIR project (ERASMUS+ project on intersectional fairness in and for AI)

Tackling Breda's Societal Challenges with Emerging Technologies

What digital trends will affect our residents, visitors and businesses in 2030 and beyond? What opportunities will these offer for societal challenges such as an aging population, scarcity of physical space and labor market shortages? The city of Breda asked TNO to investigate this. Accordingly, we have created a shortlist of emerging technologies, and mapped them to the challenges that we think they could help address. In this workshop, we present 8 posters: each describes one societal challenge and the corresponding technologies. We invite you to pick three challenges (posters) and think creatively about what each technology could contribute for the city and these challenges; considering Breda's residents, visitors, and businesses. You will have 10 minutes per poster to provide your thoughts by adding post-its to the posters, and discuss with fellow ISP experts and the research team. The result of our research will contribute to raising awareness of (emerging) technologies, get parties (residents and/or companies) to experiment with or apply promising technologies, and ultimately improve the quality of life in Breda.

ACEcaperoom

You will attend an Interactive digital escape room to find the advantages and disadvantages of Generative AI by using your mobile phone in a small team. You have to find the codewords in this digital escape room by using AI. Time is key! Good Luck!

Navigating the biodiversity crisis – TNO’s technological and societal contributions.

In this workshop, besides setting the scene, we will dive into the projects and innovations TNO is working on that could (in)directly impact biodiversity by using Mentimeter. In the other workshop of biodiversity we will focus on TNO's right to play and the market. The output of both workshops will be used to develop a pitch for internal and external use to position TNO in this domain, and secure a seat at the table when governments and organizations ask for help navigating the biodiversity crisis. It is possible but not necessary to follow both workshops.

Navigating the biodiversity crisis – TNO’s right to play.

In this workshop on Biodiversity, besides setting the scene, we will work on market opportunities for TNO i.r.t. other RTO's and companies in the field.  The other workshop is about the projects and innovations TNO is working on that could (in)directly impact biodiversity. The output of both workshops will be used to develop a pitch for internal and external use to position TNO in this domain, and secure a seat at the table when governments and organizations ask for help navigating the biodiversity crisis. It is possible but not necessary to follow both workshops.

Moved by technology: storytelling in the ISP Memory Museum

We all have memories of important moments in our lives. Museums are places where memories can be celebrated, and you are invited to share and celebrate yours in the ISP Memory Museum. Bring an item to the workshop that connects you to a memory of a science/tech related moment in your life. It can be anything, like the soldering iron your parent taught you how to solder with, or that one floppy drive that contains the first website you ever built. Together we will create a museum to display all objects and we'll each write an accompanying label text for our item. Our colleagues get a chance to visit the museum after the workshop.

Empowering Citizens: Zero-Knowledge Proofs for Data Autonomy

We will discuss a technique called “zero-knowledge proof (ZKP)”. ZKPs allow a prover to prove something to a verifier without releasing any private information. For example, they can enable citizens to prove that they are allowed to access age-restricted content without sending a copy of their passport. While this sounds a bit like magic, we will make the audience acquainted with ZKPs in an intuitive way using a number of demo’s/games/brainstorm and discuss potential use-cases of ZKPs for the societal goals. In the last years, we have done a number of projects within ACQuA on this topic. Most notably is the ERP Next-Generation Crypto where we use ZKPs to verify the correctness of AI models to the public.

Journaling your way into finding meaning & purpose

The expectation is to explore together how simple journalling techniques and prompts can be a means towards self-discovery, helping us to delve into personal narratives and gaining a better understanding of ourselves and drivers behind our actions and thoughts.

Your day in the news

In this workshop you will take articles from newspapers/popular science articles that resonate with you in some way to get a better feeling for the connection between work and society at large.

What is life?

"During our workshop, we will present our research for Lowlands. At Lowlands, we will explore the question "what is life?" together with the visitors. We will do this through an interactive experience with a machine where a reward can be earned. This experiment encourages visitors to think about what distinguishes life from non-life.
This question is more relevant than ever due to recent advances in AI. We will start with a discussion about the question "what is life?" and why this is a complex question, followed by interaction with the machine as planned for Lowlands."

Empathy driven Impact- Creating Solutions with and for a diverse world

In this workshop we propose to share, roleplay and reflect to gain awareness on the need to empathize with diversity when creating impact.” We will bring a poster for the common space, prints with instructions for the role plays and post its and markers to collect the input from each group and share it in the poster.
