Hunting for Ambition - The Royal Hunt and the Representation of Power at the Court of Savoy
Recently, court historians have been increasingly interested in analysing ceremonies that marked the life of sovereigns. Among these, princely hunting represents a fascinating example in which they were protagonists of a loisir with high symbolic implications.
The relevance of hunting was also related to the costs of maintaining staff, animals and logistics, which had a significant impact on the development of the court itself. Likewise, the spatial dimension entailed in it called for territorial control.
My research aims to trace how this multidimensional nature of hunting represented an instrument of reconstruction, consolidation and strengthening of the House of Savoy's sovereignty between the 16th and 18th centuries.
