Programme Director for Knowledge Security at TU Delft, Peter Weijland, introduces how TU Delft has approached the issue of knowledge security within its collaborations with third parties, and the role of moral deliberation has played in this approach.

Knowledge Security: a Moral Enquiry – Ruud Meij

Philosopher and co-founder of Governance & Integrity International, Ruud Meij, will look back on the work he and his team led with TU Delft on Knowledge Security as a moral challenge. Ruud will share his reflections on the university in 2023, and where international cooperation with third parties raises questions which are deeply linked to justice. He will offer the theoretical foundations as well as the practical methods which were used in the moral deliberations with TU Delft’s pilot commission.

Moral deliberation: a demonstration

Breakout

In the breakout sessions, groups will be led by a facilitator, through the method used in the moral deliberations, using a detailed case. The objective is to give participants a taste of how the method works in practice, and the opportunity to reflect on its applicability for their own moral questions around knowledge security.

Plenary

As members of the pilot commission, Cynthia and Peter brought their different backgrounds and expertise to the table in the pilot commission and actively participated in the moral deliberations. We take the opportunity to hear from them about their experience of moral deliberations as a tool for dealing with questions of knowledge security, their most important lessons, and what the results have meant for them and for TU Delft.
