This spring, Melvyn Roerdink will transfer to FHML of Maastricht University. He is currently associate professor Technology in Motion at the Department of Human Movement Sciences of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Melvyn and his team work on conceptual and technological MedTech solutions in the context of rehabilitation and prevention to better understand, evaluate and improve (limitations in) walking. His mission -and invitation to you- is to merge cutting-edge human movement science with emerging motion technologies and (academic) entrepreneurship to generate knowledge and solutions for and with ‘you’ (e.g., academics, students, patients, societal stakeholders, …). This proved to be a successful and fast route to real-world impact, with various patient groups across the world benefitting from his patented and medically certified C-Mill (the world’s first augmented-reality rehabilitation treadmill, commercialized by Motek Medical) and Reality DTx® (for remotely prescribed and monitored at-home gait-and-balance augmented-reality therapy, commercialized by Strolll) inventions.
