Bio
Dr. Jeroen Dudink is a clinician-scientist (neonatologist) from the University Medical Center Utrecht, with extensive training in neonatal neurology and developmental neuroscience. His training includes a PhD in neonatal Diffusion Tensor Imaging, a 12-month research internship at the Imperial College London (Hammersmith Hospital), a Masters degree in Neuroscience and work experience in several NICU’s: including Leuven (medical education), Leiden (Pediatric training), Rotterdam (Fellowship Neonatology and 10 years as a Neonatologist) and now Utrecht (as clinical neonatologist and researcher). His work focuses on advanced neonatal neuroimaging and monitoring to unravel pathophysiological mechanisms, develop early biomarkers for predicting neurodevelopmental outcomes, and design innovative treatments for high-risk newborns. With a strong foundation in both clinical neonatal neurology and neuroscience, Dr. Dudink has set up several collaborations with technical universities and industry partners, leading to several new innovations such as a wireless cerebral ultrasound probe and an automated neonatal EEG analysis system.
Dr. Dudink’s research emphasizes the important role of sleep in neonatal brain development, translating decades of foundational hypotheses into clinical applications. He and his team developed the first validated behavioral sleep scoring system for preterm infants and created Sleep Well Baby software, enabling real-time bedside sleep monitoring linked to neuroimaging. Dr. Dudink’s contributions have been highlighted through awards, public engagements, and collaborations with patient organizations to promote awareness and education on neonatal sleep.
