Prof Barbara Koroušić Seljak is a senior researcher within the Computer Systems Department at Jožef Stefan Institute, where she guides an enthusiastic group of computer scientists and data scientists. This dynamic team has contributed significantly to numerous research papers published in top-tier scientific journals, spanning the realms of both computer science and food & nutrition. Currently, her research is centered around the critical areas of data standardization and interoperability. She holds key roles as a coordinator and workpackage leader in various national and European projects, predominantly concentrated on food and nutrition. Within ELIXIR, she contributes as a member of the Food and Nutrition community, showcasing her commitment to advancing collaborative efforts in the field. 

"Exploring the Intersection of AI and Data Science: A Journey into Metabolomics within the World of Fermented Foods"

By employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science techniques, the data gathered from metabolomics studies can be harnessed to delineate relations between microbes, encompassing their genomic data, biochemical pathways, and metabolic pathways, with metabolites serving as indicators for health. However, to execute such a complex task successfully, a series of systematic steps must be undertaken. During the lecture, we will elucidate these steps and engage in a discussion about any lingering open issues.
