The neuropsychoanalytic method of diagnosis and treatment

Over the last few decades, Neuropsychoanalysis has endeavoured to integrate psychoanalytic and neuroscientific perspectives upon the mind, on the basis of new research findings. Only in recent years has it become apparent that these scientific developments have practical implications for our clinical work. In this presentation, Mark Solms will outline both the scientific developments and their practical clinical implications. His lecture will be followed by the presentation of a case by a member of the audience, which Mark Solms will discuss, in order to illustrate the points he made in his lecture with a concrete example.

Mark Solms

Mark Solms is een Zuid-Afrikaanse psychoanalyticus en neuropsycholoog, die bekend staat om zijn ontdekking van de hersenmechanismen van dromen en zijn gebruik van psychoanalytische methoden in de hedendaagse neurowetenschappen. Hij bekleedt de leerstoel Neuropsychologie aan de Universiteit van Kaapstad en het Groote Schuur Ziekenhuis (afdelingen Psychologie en Neurologie) en is voorzitter van de South African Psychoanalytical Association. Hij is tevens onderzoeksvoorzitter van de International Psychoanalytical Association (sinds 2013).
