Tony Buckley
Character is a persistent model of insight and change for over a century. This presentation is a whistlestop overview of that history highlighting the relevance of theory in facilitating therapeutic change in treatment settings.
The topic explores how character dovetails with attachment theory and models which examine developmental themes. The presentation is lively, informative and interactive enabling participants to become curious about their own sculpting through early life experiences.
The nature of character is to become fixed almost in a Darwinian sense of natural adaptation like animals to their habitat in the wild. The secrets within the theory is that although resistant it is also highly plastic and clients can become their own agents of change in areas where these adaptations become maladaptive in context of their modern lives.
Different adaptational strategies will be outlined incorporating embodied elements and aspects affecting gesture, musculature, posture, emotion, movement, thinking and behavior patterns. Participants will take away many useful insights and intervention tips. Limiting and dysfuncitonal beliefs are studied as central coalescing forces of character.
An additional workshop will be offered for experiental exploration of themes and skills exploring fixity and plasticity dynamics of personality and character.
