BioSB 2024 - Thank you for participating!

Dear participants of BioSB 2024 (and other interested people),

The BioSB 2024 conference was held on 18 and 19 June 2024 in Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee! More than 300 people working in bioinformatics or systems biology gathered together in Egmond aan Zee to discuss the latest research developments in the fields of bioinformatics, systems and computational (systems) biology and their wide-ranging applications in life sciences & health, agriculture, food & nutrition.

The conference was co-organised by the BioSB research school and TU-Delft. The Conference dinner was organized at Nautilus aan Zee.

Dinner, music, running shoes & swim suit

In the evening of 18 June, after the poster sessions, there will be a BBQ dinner & party at the breathtaking venue Nautilus aan Zee. The party includes a PopPubQuiz organized by YoungCB, accompanied by the Collector's band with free drinks and dancing on the beach until 23:45!

IMPORTANT: During the conference registration you will get a dinner-bracelet to be able to enter the dinner venue Nautilus aan Zee.
(Note: If you have not registered for the dinner yet, but would like to attend, registration for the dinner is still possible by changing your registration and adding the dinner to it!) 

The next day, you can get a fresh start at 7am by taking part in the traditional
BioSB morning run led by Peter-Bram t'Hoen (we will meet in the hotel lobby).
Not a running fan?  You can also take a refreshing dip in the hotel pool.

Address & route

You will find route information on the Hotel Zuiderduin website.. If travelling by public transport, it is best to take the train to Alkmaar or Castricum. From Alkmaar train station you can take bus line 165 (every 30 minutes) and from Castricum train station you can take bus line 164 (every hour). The bus stops within walking distance of the conference hotel.

Conference hotel

For those staying at the conference hotel, here are some practical details:
You will not receive a separate confirmation of your hotel reservation, it is included in your registration. You can check-in by stating your name at the venue's front desk.

• Check-in time after 15:00h

• Check-out time before 10:30h

• Breakfast will be served from 7:00 - 10:30h in the restaurant

We booked room 530 at the location where you can leave your coat and luggage before checking in and after checking out of your hotel room.

The hotel has a car park we can use. If you see a red X, it's full. You can do two things: 1) walk into the hotel and ask if there might be a free spot somewhere, which sometimes happens, or 2) you can park along the road. A day ticket costs about 11 euros. But if you can, please carpool or use public transport.  

Scientific Programme

This year the programme features 4 keynote lectures and 15 (there is no session 12) parallel sessions on Biostatistics & Mechanistic modelling, Machine Learning,  Constraint-based & Multiscale  Modelling,  Proteomics & Beyond,  Single-cell transcriptomics,  Transcriptomics, Genomics and Cancer Genomics, Live Demos: Bioinformatics in Action and From Academia To Industry.

The session ‘From Academia To Industry’ or ‘Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Moving From Academia To Industry’ on Tuesday, 18 June 2024 from 13:30 in room 559, is organised to highlight the skills and experiences valued by industry leaders, provide guidance on how to make a strong application for a smooth hiring process and outline possible career paths. Moreover, it serves as a platform for companies to showcase their innovative work, ethos and capabilities and attract emerging talent. There will be an incredible line-up of speakers from The Hyve (Harry van Haaften), Rijk Zwaan (Michiel Wels), Winclove Probiotics (Mark Hanemaaijer), former Omnigen BV (Berry Kriesels), Genmab (Iris Kolder, PhD), and dsm-firmenich (Leonor Guedes da Silva) to give you a comprehensive overview of the industry landscape.

The traditional "Demo session" will be a one of the parallel sessions, called "Live Demos: Bioinformatics in Action", on Wednesday 19 June, from 11:00 in room 559. Experience the future of bioinformatics with live demonstrations of cutting-edge tools and methodologies. Topics include FAIR data management, modular queries for biomedical data integration, and deep learning for exploring 3D protein structures. See these advanced technologies in action and discover how they can transform your research.

Oral presentations & poster sessions

Are you presenting at the conference? Find all the information you need on Abstract and Presenters. For all oral presentations, please send us your presentation preferably before the start of the conference and no later than Friday 14 June!
