Conference Information
Presentations
Panel presentations should be limited to 15 minutes to ensure adequate time for a Q&A period unless otherwise specified by a panel organizer.
Keynote speakers have been contacted separately regarding their respective presentations/speeches. There will be ample time given for the audience to ask questions.
Roundtable participants have also been contacted separately with key questions and discussion focus. Again, there will be ample time given to the audience to engage with the speakers.
For the plenary presentations, each participant will get 15 minutes to present their papers and/or powerpoints. Extensive time has been allocated for Q&A/discussion session after panel presentation.
There is no need for presenters to send their presentations to the organizers/chairs. BUT, presenters are responsible for their own presentations and to bring them in a USB (please make sure there are no viruses). Presenters can also read out their work.
While platforms such as CANVA are becoming very popular, we would advise presenters to not to use these online platforms because of connectivity problems.
A few presenters are joining us via Zoom. We would like to request the online presenters to send a pre-recorded video to the Organizing Committee and to the respective panel chair. This is in case of any technical challenges during the session.
Getting to the conference venue
UvA has several buildings/campuses across Amsterdam. The Anthropology Department is at the Roeterseiland Campus (REC for short) which is in the Oost (East) Amsterdam area.
The exact address is the following: Valckenierstraat 59, Entrance BLDG B&C, 1018XE Amsterdam (you may also see on Google map that UvA campus comes up as Nieuwe Achtergracht - that is also correct - that is the adjacent road)
Those using the tram/public transportation, please note that the Netherlands has become almost entirely cashless. You can use your bank card/credit card to “tap in” and “tap out” - no need to buy a separate ticket.
At the entrance of building B & C, members of the organizing team will be there to show you the way. You will also have information of the different classrooms in the conference booklet.
Meals and Activities
Lunch arrangements have been made at the REC cafeteria with a wide range of vegan, vegetarian, and non-vegetarian options. Paid registrants will receive a coupon to cover the cost of lunch.
The reception on the first day will take place within the REC building.
On the second day we have the boat trip and dinner. The boat(s) will pick us up near the REC building. Please keep in mind that there may be about 5-8 minutes walking to the pick up point. We will guide you, so please follow us.
The boat(s) will drop us off near the restaurant, which is also in Oost Amsterdam (about 8 minutes walking distance from REC building). Again, there may be about 10 minutes walking from the drop off point to the restaurant.
Both dinner and boat tickets are sold out.
