Prof. Jeremy Williams

Jeremy Williams MNIL is a professor in interior Architecture at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences. He graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts with a master in Furniture Design and Interior Architecture, was a board member of the European Council of Interior Architects from 2018 – 2024 and presently leads the ECIA working group for education, and the Oslo conference “Substance – Research in Interior Architecture”.

Prof. Mark N. Phillips

Prof. Mark N. Phillips, Architect and Researcher, has been scientific collaborator in several New Work projects. He is a professor for experimental Space and Interior Architecture at Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts – School of Design. His research field is Collisions, Room for Creativity and Innovation in the Office. He is an active member of IMAE Institut Mensch & Ästhetik – a transuniversitary and transdisciplinary research institute of Coburg University and Bamberg University.

Prof. Dr. Carola Ebert

Prof. Dr. Carola Ebert teaches Interior Design, History and Theory at Berlin International. Her research focusses on subject-specific approaches to interior history and reuse, on research-based teaching and learning, and the studio-history/theory nexus. She was Head of BI’s Interior MAs (2020-22) and is the editor of Theorising Interior Architecture and Design (Routledge 2025).

Emily Bakke, Research assistant

Emily works as a research assistant for the Substance conference and manages the website. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in interior architecture from Kristiania University of Applied Sciences in 2023. Currently pursuing her master’s degree at Kristiania, her thesis explores ageing in place and how interior architecture can inspire people to adapt their homes earlier in life.
