'Perfect Strangers', An UnliMited-Students LARP

What is a LARP?

LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. While it is a game, in the sense of having certain goals and certain mechanisms- it is also an improvised theatre. During the game, the players turn into their fictional characters, like actors on a stage.

And it’s a game - you don’t have to be good at acting at all! While players who feel “theatrical” are welcome to go all in, you will also have fun by simply responding to the acts of others, even with little to no theatrical addition to it.

What matters the most is fun, there is no right or wrong way of expressing your character! Simply, a LARP is like playing pretend, in the same way children in the sandbox pretend to be adults or students in a tutorial pretend to be negotiators in international matters.

What will this LARP be about?

A group of friends, who have known each other for many years and are now meeting for a reunion. Some have since gotten married, some are dating, others have remained single… This evening, all of them meet to have dinner and observe the beautiful lunar eclipse together.

As the evening unfolds, the group decides to play a “trust game”. They promise each other to read aloud every text message and pick up every phone call they get on speaker. They will now be confronted with secrets that perhaps should have stayed… well, secrets.

Will this game destroy their life-long friendships? Or will it be just a fun anecdote they will forever remember?

This is up to you - players. How will you react when your boss calls with an unexpected and strange request? How could you explain you own a house no one knows about? What will you tell your vegan partner when they learn you have secretly been eating meat behind their back?

Trust, friendship, secrecy, honesty and privacy - all mixed together to form a story of how much of our lives are what they appear to be to others and how well can we really know someone.

Programme of the event:

16:00 - 16:30 Warm up and short workshop about LARPs, safety and basic mechanisms.

16:30 - 18:00 LARP game: Perfect Strangers

18:00-18:30 Debriefing: What has happened during the game? What have we learnt?

Triggers:

During the LARP, certain topics might come up that trigger you or make you uncomfortable. We want this event to be as nice as possible for all participants, so we will do everything to avoid such triggers.

Before the LARP will start, we will explain general and in-game triggers in more detail. You will then still have the opportunity to submit any triggers you find out about yourself. The general triggers will be anonymous; we will ask you to give your name for the second type of triggers.

What do you need?

Yourself, a phone, and openness to have fun! During the game, we will need your phone number.
