About the Annual Symposium

'Water and soil as guiding principles: working towards implementation in the built environment'

Friday October 11th, 2024

Instead of continually adapting our land and water to suit our short-term needs and desires, climate change and extreme weather conditions push us to reconsider how soil and water systems will shape the built environment of the Netherlands in the long term.

The 2022 parliamentary paper Water en Bodem Sturend highlights the national government's commitment to making spatial development guidelines based on soil and water systems. For the past year and a half, stakeholders—including government agencies, project developers, banks, and insurance companies—have been actively discussing how to implement these guidelines.

This event provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to come together and engage in insightful discussions on Water en Bodem Sturend from various perspectives. We are excited to bring the entire Red&Blue consortium together to share insights and progress on the program’s research agenda. Participants will have ample opportunities to strengthen relationships, foster collaborations, and align research with the latest developments in policy and practice.

  • Climate risk & resilience analysis
In this session, we present developed flood, wind, and hail hazard and risk maps and the development of applicable resilience indicators. Also, we will discuss their usefulness and further needs by societal partners.
