LECTURE

Participation of child advocates in armed conflict

MON 15 JANUARY, 20:00
Auditorium, Minderbroedersberg 4-6

Mariam Muradyan

Programme coordinator at Global Campus for Human Rights, Venice & lecturer Center for European Studies at Yerevan State University

Generally, participation of children in armed conflicts is considered of two types: child soldiers and children affected by conflicts. In this lecture children’s rights researcher Mariam Muradyan suggests to look at the protection and care of children whose normal life course is disrupted due to armed conflicts (Article 38 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations) from the viewpoint of Article 12: Child Participation. Since war is a crisis happening to the child, it is considered as a “matter affecting the child”. Therefore, it is essential to consider the possibilities for children in armed conflict to advocate for their peaceful life through a non-tokenistic and rights-based approach. The presentation will zoom in on the case of Nagorno Karabakh.
