Python4All: Sharing ideas and experiences of Python programming at introductory level with Freek Pols

Date Tuesday 24 October
Time 12:30-13:30 | Walk-in: 12:30-12:45 – Session: 12:45-13:30
Location Teaching Lab (directions)

A basic knowledge of programming and data-analysis seems indispensable for any engineer. Programming in Python is therefore frequently included in our first year courses. Moreover, crash courses on Python for various master programs exist as well. However, we are often unaware of the materials used by others in our University.

This session therefore focuses around the questions what do we teach in such introductory courses, and how do we teach Python and assess students’ knowledge? We aim to exchange best practices and see whether we can exchange teaching materials.

In this Meet & Eat we will start with an introduction of how the basics of Python programming are taught in the first year of Applied Physics using self-explanatory Jupyter Notebooks. Freek will elaborate on both the content and the approach, taking into account the huge differences in prior knowledge. We then invite participants to exchange methods, ideas, encountered problems and so on.
