About

As a key knowledge institution of the semiconductors and photonics industry in the Netherlands, TU/e aims to become a magnet to attract international talents in the semiconductors and photonics to Eindhoven and the Brainport region. From 2023 to 2025, TU/e will take the lead in organizing the Eindhoven Summer School on Semiconductors and Photonics, together with academic and industrial partners from the Netherlands, USA, India and Taiwan.

The main organizer is the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (on Photonics, Electronics, and Quantum Technologies) at Eindhoven University of Technology. The main partners will be ASML, NXP, TSMC and PhotonDelta for semiconductors and photonics, respectively. Internationally, the academic partners from the top three universities in Taiwan (NTU, NYCU, NCKU) will participate in this event.  

The summer school will contribute to the Talent program of the Growth fund by strengthening the existing competitiveness and transforming the Netherlands into the leader of next-generation semiconductors. The summer school also fits the Scale Jump envisioned by the Brainport region in which TU/e aims to double the number of master’s degree graduates by 2032, in order to meet the growing demand for talent in the Brainport region.

By organizing a series of Summer and Winter schools, we will increase the visibility of TU/e, Eindhoven and Brainport region, and make this region fully recognized as the center of semiconductors and photonics technology. By focusing on (3^rd or 4^th year) Bachelor, and Master students, as well as inviting scientific staff members from these top institutions, we aim to achieve amplifying factors and reach many more students in these universities.

In this inaugural event, we will host 30 students, but we aim to gradually increase this number to 100 in the coming years. The summer school will run for five years. The first year will be a pilot, which will be evaluated after the first edition. The summer school will coordinate also with the student teams and entrepreneurial projects of the EHCI.

We are dedicated to the success of the summer school and fostering its organic growth over the years, with a primary focus on attracting top talent to TU/e.
