Graduate School - 10 Years!

2022 marks the 10-year anniversary of the TU Delft Graduate School: a time to reflect and to celebrate its success, but also a time to look towards the future.

We would like to cordially invite you to the TU Delft Graduate School Lustrum Event on Wednesday 7 December to celebrate this milestone together.

The TU Delft Graduate School was initiated in 2012 bringing together the eight existing faculty graduate schools and its support organisation. The goal was to strengthen the organisation and quality of the PhD programme, enhance its international profile as a leading institute for educating the next generation of young researchers, and provide solid training in generic and transferable skills facilitating its graduates successful careers both inside and outside academia.

In 10 years’ time, the active PhD community grew from 2,000 to over 3,000 PhD candidates, with an average of 400 PhD candidates successfully defending their dissertation annually. Former PhD candidates have found valuable positions worldwide in academia, ministries and local governments, research organizations, and in industry. However, in the last 10 years, society has changed, technology has changed, the job-market has changed. What does a doctoral degree mean to today’s society?  Does a doctorate add value to careers outside academia? What is the role of the graduate school in the coming years? Reflections we would like to explore together at the Lustrum Event.
