Julia Bandow is a full professor of Applied Microbiology at Ruhr University Bochum/Germany. She received a PhD in Microbiology from Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald/Germany in 2002 and then joined Pfizer Global Research and Development, Ann Arbor Michigan/USA, where she utilized proteomic methods to identify drug mechanisms of actions and biomarkers of disease and drug efficacy. In 2008 after six years in industry, she joined RUB to pursue an academic career.
Bandow’s research interests focus on antibacterial strategies. In 2014 she was honored with the Research Award of the German Microbiology Society (VAAM) for her contributions to antibiotic research. Her current projects include the search for novel antibiotics on the basis of natural products and metalloantibiotics as well as applications of non-equilibrium plasma in microbiology and biotechnology. In particular, Bandow is interested in the effects of plasma treatment on bacteria and proteins, and in the bacterial defense mechanisms
Daniela Boehm is a Science Foundation Ireland Starting Investigator and assistant lecturer in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at Technological University Dublin. Her research focuses on investigating the application of plasma and plasma activated liquids in microbial decontamination, with an emphasis on understanding the translation of liquid chemistry to biological effect. The safety of plasma activated liquids is one of Daniela’s topics of interest including studies on cytotoxic and genotoxic effects, the action of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and development of resistances.
Cristina Canal is Associate professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), within the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering Group. She serves as deputy director of the Center for Research in Biomedical Engineering (CREB). Her research has been recognized with different awards, including the “2018 Early Career Award in Plasma Medicine“ and the "2020 ICREA Academia".
Her interests are focused in cold plasmas for biomedical applications, particularly investigating cold atmospheric pressure plasmas and their interactions with liquids and biomaterials for therapeutic applications. Together with an interdisciplinary team she aims at understanding the interactions and mechanisms beyond the interactions of reactive species from the gas phase with biomaterials in the liquid phase, and their biological outcomes, especially with regard to cancer therapies.

He holds more than 30 patents, wrote 8 monograph books and more than thousand journal papers.
Matteo Gherardi is associate professor at the University of Bologna. His scientific activity is focused on the development of innovative plasma technologies and their applications in industrially and socially relevant fields. MG expertise is rooted in plasma engineering and physics (design and optimization of plasma systems and processes, plasma diagnostics) and his main research interests are i) equilibrium and non-equilibrium plasmas at atmospheric or sub-atmospheric pressures, ii) material processing, iii) plasma application in the agrifood and medical fields, iv) plasma characterization and v) development of monitoring and control strategies for plasma processes.
MG most recent research activities deal with i) thin film deposition for developing antimicrobial surfaces, ii) development of energy-based and chemistry-based control strategies for plasma processes, iii) investigation of plasma-aerosol systems, iv) design of plasma-based technologies for COVID containment and v) up-scaling of plasma systems.
Dr. Petr Lukeš is a senior researcher and the Head of the Department of Pulse Plasma Systems at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic. He is specialized in the research of elementary chemical and physical processes induced by non-thermal plasma of electrical discharges in liquids and in gas-liquid environments; environmental and biomedical applications of underwater plasma; diagnostics of chemical products of electrical discharges in liquids and gas/liquid interfaces; investigation of effects of discharge plasma on organic compounds and microorganisms in liquids.
Nevena Puač finished her postgraduate studies and obtained PhD at the Faculty of Physics, University of Belgrade in 2007. She is a research professor in the Centre of excellence for non-equilibrium processes at the Institute of Physics Belgrade. Her scientific interests include low temperature plasma physics, construction and diagnostic of CCP/ICP RF and MW plasmas, atmospheric pressure plasmas, power measurements with derivative probes and applications of plasmas in biology, medicine, stomatology and agriculture.
Carola van Pul is a clinical physicist in Maxima Medical Center and also an Associate Professor and Chair of Clinical Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her fields of expertise concerns general clinical physics - for radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation protection, with a particular specialization in medical technology used for intensive and mother-and-child care. Next to her clinical tasks as clinical physicist in MMC, Carola is an active researcher. Focus of her research is currently on patient monitoring for (neonatal) intensive care, using machine learning for early detection of deterioration and development of alarms for the complex medical alarm systems using ICT networks.
