Introduction to and dialogue about Recognition & Rewards This workshop starts with an introduction of the national programme on Recognition & Rewards. A broad dialogue in academia is important to achieve the objectives of this programm. Therefore, all universities and research organisations are organising a broad dialogue among academics. In this workshop we will follow the format for such a dialogue session of Tilburg University. After the plenary opening, participants will be divided into break-out rooms. Central questions in this discussion are: Which aspects of your work deserves more recognition and appreciation? What opportunities do you see for more differentiated career paths? What do you think should change in the way we assess each other? Note: only in round 1. By: Elke van Cassel |
What will Recognition & Rewards mean for young academics? Over the past year, the Young Academy (DJA), PhD Network Netherlands (PNN) and Young Science in Transition (YSiT) have held great dialogue sessions about Recognition and Rewards in Academia. This has led to a number of interesting publications. Hanneke Hulst (DJA), Rosanne Anholt (PNN) and Annemijn Algra (YSiT) will share the perspective of young academics on modernising the system of recognition and rewards in academia. Are you a young academic? Or do you want to know more about the expectations, dilemmas and concerns of young academics? Join this workshop! Note: only in round 1. |
Piloting Recognition & Rewards at the Erasmus University Rotterdam One of the goals presented in the position paper focusses on the diversification and vitalisation of career pathways. Although everyone agrees on the importance of this goal, implementing changes in the way we define academic careers can be challenging. In this workshop, we will present three different approaches that are currently developed and/or implemented at Erasmus University Rotterdam. In addition to that, we will use an interactive approach to discuss the strengths and limitations of developing University specific approaches for diversifying career pathways, and together we will try to come up with important steps to take for defining a national framework for the diversification of career pathways to prevent large differences between universities. Open Science (i.s.m programma Open Science) Open Science and a modernization of the system of career assessment are strongly intertwined. Some see the modernization of Recognition and Rewards in academia as part of the Open Science agenda. Others see that Open Science can only happen if academia rewards Open Access publishing, sharing data and involving the public in setting up research agenda’s or doing research themselves (Citizen Science). During this workshop we will explore how we can recognize Open Science activities when assessing academics at several stages in their career. |
Round table university visions on Recognition & Rewards Every university and research organisation in the Netherlands has set up a high level Recognition & Rewards committee. These committees translate the aims in the position paper Room for Everyone's Talent to their own organisations. They formulate a broadly supported vision on Recognition & Rewards for their own organisation. Two chairs of these Recognition & Reward will discuss the vision of the University of Twente, and how the vision came about. There is of course also room for questions from the audience. Note: only in round 2 |
